Unlocking the Norwich Consistory Court Archive
NORAH is supporting the Norfolk Record Office’s programme to unlock the amazing archive of the Norwich Consistory Court. The archive is especially rich for the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a period when the church courts held a lot of power over the day to day activities of ordinary people. The archive, a lot of which is very fragile, contains countless stories about people living in Norfolk and Suffolk; rich and poor, old and young. Following on from the soon to be completed penance project, the NRO and NORAH want to look at a different type of record, found in the Consistory Court archive; documents exhibited as evidence.
