Applying for a Grant

NorAH welcomes grant applications from any organisation planning a project which involves archives and Norfolk. The aims of any supported project must meet NorAH’s charitable objectives as defined in its constitution. NorAH broadly defines archives as records worthy of permanent preservation because of their historical importance. It defines a record as a unique or very rare item which has been created by the day-to-day activity of an organisation or individual.

Applications can be made at any time of the year. NorAH’s trustees meet four times throughout the year, usually in March, June, September, and December. However, if the needs for funds is urgent, for example, an archive is being sold at an auction, decisions can be made outside of a trustees’ meeting. The size of recent grants awarded by NorAH varies between £100 to £5,000.

Before submitting an application form for funding, please email us with a brief outline of your project, including an approximate timescale and an idea of how much you may be asking for. We can then have an informal discussion about your proposal before sending you an application form.

Each application is considered on its own merits and NorAH’s trustees’ reserve the right to not fund 100% of a grant. Please also note that often, one of the conditions of a grant is that maybe the recipient gives a talk to members of the Norfolk Archives Supporter Scheme.
